It was an honor to participate in International Reggae Day 2020, with the founder of Hip-Hop DJ Kool Herc, and The Mother of Hip-Hop Cindy Campbell, as well as other influential members of the music industry.
"VP Records is a proud partner of International Reggae Day (IRD), the global virtual celebration of Jamaican music culture produced annually on JulyOne. Under this year’s theme #FromJamrock2HipHop, IRD’s will host 24HR of exciting reggae-infused programming at their official website from the cultural mecca of Kingston. Jamaica. Selected programmes will be live on the @vprecords YouTube Channel. Through artiste performances, panel discussions, DJ sets, vignettes and other activities - IRD will share about the rich history, the genesis of, and the continued connections between Jamaican music and Hip Hop. Specific “Game Changers” of both genres will be recognized.
ABOUT THE PANEL The IRD NYC Panel being hosted by St John’s University will trace the influence of and linkages between Jamaica’s music culture and the growth of Hip Hop, both cultural phenomena. Looking back at the genesis and exploring future opportunities. Moderated by Dr Cameron Weber, Economist and Historian of St John’s, participants during the hour-long event will include influential originators, DJs, label, festival and media representatives and curators to collate perspectives.
